NetPatrol: Home Network Check
Security check for your own home network — entirely on your device
Privacy policy
Last updated: 5 September 2026
NetPatrol: Home Network Check examines the router and devices in your own home network for risky settings and explains how to fix them. It works entirely on your device: no server, no user account, no analytics, no advertising. We as the developer receive none of your data.
Privacy in short
NetPatrol collects no data. No server, no user account, no login. No analytics, no statistics, no advertising, no trackers, no third-party libraries, no crash reports to us. All check rules, explanations and router guides are built into the app; nothing is downloaded.
What data does the app process on your device?
For a check, the app queries devices in your own local network. The following is stored in the app’s protected folder on your device:
- Check results: date, grade, findings and, per device, the local IP address, its name on the network (host name, Bonjour or UPnP name), detected type and manufacturer, open services and reported software versions. Serial numbers from UPnP descriptions are stored only as a non-reversible check value.
- Network data: your device’s address and mask, router address, DNS servers and — only if you allow it — the Wi-Fi name and Wi-Fi security type.
- Baseline and changes: the reference state of your network and the list of changes with your status (“I know this” / “Investigate”).
- Your entries and settings: your own device names, selected router model, reminder on/off, time of your “own network only” confirmation.
Device names on the network may contain personal names (e.g. “Anna’s iPhone”). This information stays on your device and is never published or shared. The app does not receive hardware (MAC) addresses of other devices; iOS does not provide them.
Permissions
Every permission can be revoked at any time in the iOS settings.
- Local network: to find and check devices in your own network (Bonjour, UPnP, connection attempts to well-known ports). Without this permission the check cannot find devices; tools and history remain usable.
- Location (while using, optional): iOS only provides the name and security type of the connected Wi-Fi to apps with location access. NetPatrol only asks for it if you choose “Show Wi-Fi name” in the settings, does not read your location itself and never stores or sends it. Without this permission only the Wi-Fi name and Wi-Fi encryption are missing.
- Notifications (optional): only for the weekly check reminder that you switch on yourself. The reminder is scheduled on the device; no push service and no background check is involved.
When does anything leave the device?
The app never connects to us. Network traffic only occurs:
- During a check: within your local network, between your device and the devices in your own subnet. None of it goes to the internet.
- With tools you start yourself: ping, traceroute or path test and DNS lookup send requests to the target you enter (DNS via your network’s DNS server). The port check only works with addresses in your local network.
- Links: links to this policy or to support open in Safari, where the terms of the respective website apply.
Backups: if iCloud Backup is enabled on your device, the app’s data may be included in it. This is a setting of your device; the app itself syncs nothing with iCloud, and we have no access to your backup.
Your rights and deletion
Access, rectification and erasure are addressed to the party that processes the data. We hold no data from NetPatrol — you exercise your rights directly in the app: view results and history, change device names, reset everything with “Settings → Delete all data”, or remove the app. Instructions are under “Delete data”.
